I’m not sure about you, but I was not always a positive person, I was the kind of person that would stub her toe in the morning and my thought process would be “that's a bad start to the day”. As I had told myself this I was wondering what else bad would happen.
As I continued to wonder, one bad thing after another would happen! I would forget my lunch, the traffic was bad, I would get to work late, playing catch-up for the remainder of the day. I had many days like this, and although I would tell myself things would get better, in the back of my head I would still be focused on all the bad things that had happened during the day. To be quite honest, I was sick and tired of having these days!
As my mind wondered I thought surely I am not the only one who has days like these, and if other people have these days how do they manage it? As the words “manage it” popped into my head there was my answer! I needed to learn to manage and control my thoughts and so my journey of personal development began.
As I had previously told myself more bad things would happen as a result of one minor thing, I decided to switch it around. Instead of telling myself more bad things would arise, I would tell myself "ok this has happened, and that’s ok, it is not the be all and end all, there are still many things I can accomplish." As I told myself this, my days got better and better! I switched my thought pattern and it worked. As a result I wanted to understand this better, and what else I was capable of doing with my thought process.
I started to look at how I would react in certain situations, and questioned my actions, took on board other people's responses to my behaviour, I was learning about myself and how my actions and thoughts would affect myself and others.
I was lucky enough to have stumbled upon a book “The Chimp Paradox” by Prof Steve Peters. This book was my saving grace! It taught me how the mind works, how to understand myself and others, how to manage my thoughts and emotions, how to improve my quality of life and much much more!
As a result, bad days are a thing of the past. I'm not saying bad things do not happen, but I manage them much better now. I can honestly say that I am a happier person!
As well as the book there are a few other things I have put into place in my daily routine. When I wake up in the morning, I begin to be grateful for the wonderful day ahead showing gratitude, excited as to what will unravel and the opportunities I will encounter. As I make my way to the kitchen to make a coffee I read my affirmations which are firmly stuck to my fridge, along with my vision board. So effectively, I have put my mind on the right path to concentrate on the things that I am aiming towards.
Because I found doing my first vision boards so beneficial, I created a very short Vision Board Session where you can, literally within minutes, get refocused on your true dreams and desires. You also get a workbook to help to refine your goals. More about my Vision Board Session: www.idiscoverchange.com/courses/vision-to-life
I also found meditation plays a big part in training your brain to remain positive, clearing your thoughts and silencing the mind. It’s a great way to stop your mind aimlessly rushing about! Exercise could be another, I myself do a 10 mile bike ride every day, not only does this benefit my health, but also improves brain function, reduces feeling of anxiety with the release of dopamine and that feel good factor endorphins. All these contribute to a positive mindset.
The more you practice and become aware of your thoughts, the more you will continue to turn negatives into positives and challenges into opportunities. You will become aware of the impact others have on you (good or bad), and you will want to spend more of your time with like minded people where you can build each other up and keep one another on a high vibration frequency.
There are no words to describe the feeling once you harness your negative thoughts and learn to manage your mind. Except it's like living in a completely different world where suddenly you have access to all the secrets! Life happens FOR you, not to you.
As the saying goes “Always look on the bright side of life” - and your life will become bright!
